Meet the Red Oak High School Choirs

A Cappella

The Varsity Choir "A Cappella" is a mixed choir that performs music from all musical periods. This auditioned choir consists of sophomores - seniors. Members of A Cappella must have previous choral experience, a good academic history, and the ability to sight-read and move quickly through fast-paced rehearsals. Members of A Cappella will perform at the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation and are required to attend all Choir Concerts throughout the year. Additionally, members are required to participate in EITHER auditions for the TMEA All-State Choir or UIL Solo & Ensemble. They are the flagship ensemble of Red Oak High School and perform at the most community events throughout the year. The choir calendar can be found in our handbook, as well as on this website through Google Calendars.

Nova Cantica

The Varsity Choir "Nova Cantica" is made up of Sophomore-Senior sopranos and altos who have previous choral experience, a good academic history, and the ability to sight-read and move quickly through fast-paced rehearsals. Members of Varsity Treble will perform at the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation and are required to attend all Choir Concerts throughout the year. Additionally, members are encouraged to participate in auditions for the TMEA All-State Choir, UIL Solo & Ensemble, and will perform at several community events along with A Cappella.

Advanced Treble

The Advanced Treble Choir is made up of intermediate to advanced level Sopranos and Altos who have demonstrated an understanding and mastery of basic to intermediate choral music skills. Members of Advanced Treble will perform at the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation and are required to attend all Choir Concerts throughout the year. Additionally, All-Region Choir auditions and/or participation in UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest is recommended.

Advanced Tenor-Bass

The Advanced Tenor-Bass Choir is made up of intermediate to advanced level Tenors and Basses who have demonstrated an understanding and mastery of basic to intermediate choral music skills. Members of Advanced TB will perform at the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation and are required to attend all Choir Concerts throughout the year. Additionally, All-Region Choir auditions and/or participation in UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest is recommended.

Melodia

Melodia is made up of female singers entering into the ROHS Choir Department. This is a non-varsity group of treble singers with members from all experience levels, this ensemble focuses on building of healthy vocal techniques and mastery of music reading. They are a fun group of singers with a desire to learn, grow, and further develop their level of musicianship. Members of Melodia will perform at the UIL Concert & Sight Reading Evaluation are required to attend all Choir Concerts throughout the year.

Concert Tenor-Bass

The Concert Tenor-Bass Choir is primarily made up of Tenors and Basses entering into the ROHS Choir Department. This choir works on vocal pedagogy, quality choral literature, sight-reading and music reading skills, choral etiquette, music theory, and music appreciation. Members of the Concert Tenor-Bass Choir are required to attend all Choir Concerts throughout the year.
